Kyrenia Gate is the arched northern entry into Nicosia, through the Old Walls which surround the city. It was built by the Venetians in 1567. The gate was used to be called “Porta Del Proveditore” named after the Venetian engineer Proveditore Francesco. On the walls of the gate there are inscriptions from Venetian and Ottoman times.
